Inspired by Tsuyoshi Kawabata’s hometown of Toyama as it changes through the seasons, Mayu drifts from the homemade whimsy of fellow travelers like Woo & Nuno Canavarro to starker post-punk arrangements befitting Pale Cocoon’s distinction as the group that joined The Durutti Column on their 1984 tour of Japan.
