Very pleased to have a few copies of this one in the shop—it’s one of my favorite new releases of the year. Mind-clearing fingerstyle guitar pieces presented with plenty of acumen and melodic grace, without ever feeling workmanlike or overly perfectionistic. Played on an old nylon-string guitar, these recordings have a plainspoken humility that’s easy to sidle up to. It’s one of those records that feels like it just exists, creating a little pocket of the present every time you put it on. A few loose ends—Aubrey Hornor’s restrained vocals on one track, a couple brief field recordings—add just the right texture and grain. When the construction sounds that close the tape finally break the spell, it’s like waking from a perfect nap—and just as tempting to restart the timer and go again.
