Bubbling, effervescent compositions for clarinet choir and Ondomo—a Japanese evolution of the theremin-like ondes Martenot. Inspired by the Italian fountains in the Villa d’Este in Tivoli—which also inspired works by Liszt and Ravel—these are fluid, surprising movements. The Ondomo can blend in with the clarinets before emerging in an uncanny warble, while clacking clarinet keys supply percussive elements along with gurgling water. Altogether lovely and immersive.
