The most delightful surprise of the year so far, a jaw-dropping carousel of intricate chamber compositions, Rube Goldberg machines of counterpoint & syncopation. Mostly jaunty, often jolly, sometimes downright bawdy, 𝘌𝘳𝘰𝘴 is liable to elicit a bemused smile before an absolutely gorgeous passage sinks you into reverie and contemplation. It’s rare for idiosyncratic music to be this accomplished, & vice versa. Hard to draw precise comparisons, but fans of Mark Mothersbaugh’s 𝘙𝘶𝘴𝘩𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘦 soundtrack, Penguin Cafe, that brilliant Torso record, or anything completely singular must check. I’m over the moon about this one. Cheerfully recommended.
