Top-two Memotone for me, right up there with Tollard from that same year. This one is unique in his discography, leaning into an organic Fourth World psychedelic vibe. Its sound grew out Will Yates’s exploration of a forgotten Y2K-era guitar synth. So much music tech came and went in that decade before its possibilities could be fully explored—here’s one inspired rescue mission, a vision of a retro-futuristic utopia that almost got away.
