The latest transmission from Tax Free Records, a label that exemplifies a particular brand of dorky hipness that I imagine is very much the vibe of modern-day Berlin. From their Y2K aesthetics to their deep catalogue of psychedelic electronic music that’s always super pleasing and just a little bit off, the label has an anything-goes, post-everything charm that’s easy to fall for and hard to describe. Let this 12” do the talking—minimal rhythms, synthetic (?) hand percussion, wiggly synth moves that waft like incense, and a through-line of bubbly sound effects. It’s brief, it’s vibey, it’s vaguely funny, and it’s pretty great.
