Beloved by Jon Hassell and Charlie Haden, these recordings exemplify the microtonal, rhythmically loose style of a Mayan brass band—a style that was already disappearing at the time of this release in 1975. Coming off like a drunken polka band playing Albert Ayler, this is free jazz by other means, innovation at the periphery.
