Charming, delightfully awkward ‘80s electronic music with surprising rhythmic complexity, like Indonesian gamelan with MS-DOS aesthetics. It’s so at home on Japan’s wonderful Conatala label that it’s easy to forget this music originated in England. Or, as a new acquaintance once asked me, confusingly, about our mutual English friend at a Philadelphia party: “Why is he British?”
