A modern classic of a compilation, first released in 2016 and collecting music from 1984 onwards. Roberto Musci is an Italian composer and musician as well as an avid ethnomusicologist, and his work documenting and exploring the musical traditions of India, Asia, and Africa deeply influences his own practice. While this material is minimal enough to be considered “ambient,” it’s some of the most textured, organic, and imaginative music I’ve heard in that vein. World-traversing and world-building. Phenomenal.
