An absolute treasure of the Japanese kankyō ongaku or “environmental music” movement, originally released exclusively in Japan in 1990. A suite of exploratory percussion pieces that feel downright elemental, and are—this music was largely made with organic materials: wood, water, stone, breath, skin. And then there are the more abstract ways it evokes a forest come to life, lively spirits animated by the playful force of Ochi’s imagination.
